Advancing Bangladesh's Net-Zero Transition through Renewable Energy Integration, Smart Grid Technologies, and Green Industrial Innovation

Abstract
"Abstract With global energy demand climbing fast, the need for smart solutions has never felt more urgent. This study zooms in on Bangladesh its renewable energy potential, and how technologies like smart grids and microgrids could shake up the way the country generates and uses power. We’re not just talking about slapping a few more solar panels on rooftops, we’re looking at big picture change. It’s how everything renewables, better access to electricity, Carbon Die Oxide emissions, economic growth, foreign investment, digital tech, and solid governance can work together to build a future that’s both stable and sustainable. We dug into thirty years of national data, tracking Bangladesh’s progress toward net-zero emissions between 1995 and 2024. This approach blends what’s happening across energy, the economy, the environment, and policy, and connects these trends straight to Bangladesh’s progress on major Sustainable Development Goals: expanding clean energy, cutting emissions, encouraging green growth, and putting smart technology and good policies to work. Since 1995, Bangladesh rocketed from less than one in five people having electricity to nearly universal coverage is 99.5%. Even though there was a push for renewables around 2000, their share slid back to just about 1 to 2%. Meanwhile, Carbon Die Oxide emissions per person shot up from 0.18 to 0.71 tons. GDP per capita soared, and electricity use per person grew eightfold. Internet access, almost unheard of in 1995, now reaches over half the population. Internet penetration reached 53% from more than 1% in 2000. Governance nudged upward, but not nearly enough, and trade openness has shrunk since the early 2000s. So, If Bangladesh wants to speed up its push toward net zero, the country needs to ramp up renewables, invest in smart energy infrastructure, and put serious focus on green industry. Doing this isn’t just good for the environment, it makes the whole energy system more secure and sets the foundation for sustainable economic growth. Meeting these goals will demand real commitment and collaboration from policymakers, business leaders, and everyone with a stake in the future. "
