Abstract
"Abstract Forest plays a vital role in ecosystem services and rural communities in Bangladesh, especially in climate regulation, maintenance of carbon dioxide (CO2) in the environment and the resilience of rural communities. The goal of this research is to find the connection between forest conservation, over carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions, ecosystems and rural community resilience. This study was conducted by using a secondary dataset collected from the period of 1995 to 2024 from the World Development Indicators (WDI). Descriptive statistics, trend analysis and correlation analysis were implemented among various datasets including forest area (% of land area), CO₂ emissions excluding (LULUCF) per capita (t CO₂e/capita), GDP per capita (current US$), and rural population (% of total population) using Microsoft Excel. The study showed that the forest area decreased from 14.75% in 1995 to 14.49% in 2023, where as CO₂ emissions per capita increased largely from 0.18 to 0.72 tones ((t CO2e/capita). Which shows strongly negative correlation between forest area and GDP per capita ( -0.761). Moreover, the rural population decreased from 78.34% to 67.32%, which has a strongly positive correlation with forest area and rural population (+ 0.962). These results show that the growing economy destroys forests that makes it difficult to balance development with protecting the environment and rural communities. In the conclusion of this research, it can say that Bangladesh has achieved good progress in economy like GDP, but the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC ) should be focused on forest protection in national development planning to ensure long-term ecological sustainability and rural resilient livelihoods."
