Macroeconomic Resilience, Inflation, and Social Welfare Protection in Bangladesh

Abstract
Bangladesh is a developing country whose economy has improved significantlyinrecent years. However, inflation is still a major problem which increases the cost of living of the people. The main purpose of this study is to analyze the resilience of theeconomy, inflation, social protection system in this country.This study was conductedusing a secondary dataset collected for period of 1995 to 2024 fromWorldDevelopment Indicator(WDI) and Worldwide Governance Indicator(WGI). This study focuses on GDP growth, inflation, trade analysis, poverty, unemployment andgovernment effectiveness of Bangladesh throughout these years. Statistical analysis was done to analyze the shifts between the variables over time.The study shows that throughout the 30 year economy, average GDP growth and inflation was 5.72%and6.62% respectively. The growth is pretty consistent but inflation in earlier years wereinconsistent which fluctuated between 2.2% to as high as 11.3%. The data shows that Bangladesh shows a deficit in trade(Avg:-5.8%) meaning the country imports moregoods than it exports. Poverty head count ratio decreased about 37.5%in 27 years describing a significant decrease in poverty. Average unemployment rate in these 30years is 3.97%(of the labor force) ranging from 2.5% to as high as 5%. WGI shows aconsistent negative score with an average of -0.74 describing the poor governance of the country. Bangladesh showed significant macroeconomic resilience over the 30year period which is marked by consistent GDP growth and poverty reduction. However, trade deficit, unpredictable inflation and poor governance remain the major hurdles to its growth.
