Students’ perceptions of online and offline learning at American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB)

Abstract

In the post-pandemic era, blended learning has become increasingly popular in Bangladesh, but challenges remain for universities adapting to this new reality. This study examines students’ perceptions of hybrid learning at American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB), a private university in Bangladesh with a focus on learning effectiveness, student experiences, and monetary costs of university attendance. Limited research examines these factors together within one study in the context of AIUB. This study is important to understand the opportunities and challenges faced by students at the university so that their academic outcomes can be enhanced. A simple random sampling method was adopted to collect primary data from a sample of 100 students across different departments through a structured questionnaire. The results show that although majority of students expressed preference for hybrid education in terms of overall experience and reduced costs, many students do not think it guarantees better understanding of lessons, and this reflects on their results. The findings indicate the need to improve teachers’ approaches to online teaching methods based on departmental needs. It also underscores the importance of government investment in reliable electricity, improved internet connectivity, and greater access to digital technologies to ensure that hybrid learning becomes more effective, inclusive, and accessible for all students.
